Serbia is a major maize-growing country, with grain maize acreage between 1 million and 1.2 million hectares, and maize seed acreage of 12 000 hectares (2008 figures).  The FNPSMS has regular contact and discussions with the Serbian seed-producers’ association (YUSEA), and this is particularly important given Serbia’s ambition to be a candidate country for accession to the EU.
